Everything in the Moneyverse revolves around money. But which institutions are behind this project? And how did it all start?

The Moneyverse

An initiative of the Swiss National Bank (SNB) in cooperation with the Bern History Museum.

Set in the heart of Bern, everything in the Moneyverse revolves around one of humanity’s most significant inventions – money. This new, interactive exhibition expands visitors’ general economic knowledge, provides insight into the work and mandate of the SNB, and addresses relevant topics related to the phenomenon of money.

The Moneyverse is financed by the SNB, but both institutions contributed their specific expertise in developing the exhibition’s content: the Bern History Museum in the fields of exhibition curation and education, and the SNB in relation to economic and monetary matters.

The Moneyverse will open its doors on 10 April 2026 at Kaiserhaus Bern, just a few steps away from Bundesplatz.

Swiss National Bank

The façade of the Swiss National Bank on Bundesplatz is characterised by the distinctive Baroque architecture of the 18th century. Clean lines and decorative details lend the building a mixture of austerity and elegance.

The SNB is the central bank of Switzerland. It has the exclusive right to issue banknotes (note-issuing privilege) and has been mandated to conduct the country’s monetary policy. In accordance with the Constitution and Swiss law, the SNB is independent in the fulfilment of its mandate, holds regular discussions with the Federal Council, is accountable to the Federal Assembly and is obliged to provide the general public with periodic information on its activities. The Moneyverse at Kaiserhaus Bern gives the public insights into the work and mandate of the SNB.

Local, lively and open to all
The history of the Kaiserhaus on Marktgasse in Bern goes back to the 19th century. Over the last seven years, the listed buildings surrounding the atrium have undergone extensive renovation, conversion and refurbishment. Awaiting visitors from 10 April 2026 is a unique combination of circular commerce, contemporary cuisine and inspiring cultural experiences. In addition to the Moneyverse, Kaiserhaus includes local shops and manufacturers, a café in the courtyard, and Kaiser Deli together with Brasserie Kaiser. The historical edifice has been transformed into a new and vibrant meeting place in the heart of the city.

Bern History Museum

The Bern Historical Museum presents an intriguing contrast: the modern glass façade of the cube meets the 19th-century building, which has a fairytale-like appearance and was built in the style of Avenches Castle with towers and bay windows.

The Bern History Museum is one of Switzerland’s foremost cultural history museums. It is an evergrowing storehouse of knowledge and human experiences related to the history of Bern and the world. The museum’s collection encompasses half a million artefacts and provides insights into different historical eras and cultural contexts. The changing exhibitions, guided tours and public events offer fascinating and sensory experiences, as well as the opportunity to critically engage with cultural heritage. Current social issues are introduced with the support of interactive learning formats. The Bern History Museum is responsible for both the management and the curation of the Moneyverse exhibition and its educational content.
