Money is more than just a means of payment. It connects and divides, is longed for and missed. It is a universal medium of exchange that we have used for thousands of years. Experience the phenomenon of money in the interactive, multimedia Moneyverse exhibition.
1 August at the Moneyverse
On 1 August, the Moneyverse will be part of the City of Bern’s National Day celebrations. At the Moneyverse booth on the Bundesplatz, you can play “You or me” about money, put your estimation skills to the test or spin the wheel of fortune. Of course, there’s also something to be won. Look forward to a surprise.
If you’d like to delve deeper into the topic, get in touch with the hosts of the Moneyverse or register directly at the booth for some thematic input. The focus here is on the question of what the Swiss franc says about Switzerland.
The thematic input lasts 20 minutes and takes place throughout the day in the exhibition at the Kaiserhaus Bern – five times in German and twice in French. The first input starts at 10:30 a.m.
Exhibition
The Moneyverse presents insights into one of humanity’s most significant inventions. Four Money Worlds illuminate the subject from different perspectives: history, economics, society and the individual. Discover some of the objects we have used as money in the past, imagine the future of money on the Utopia Phone, and get a unique glimpse inside the workings of the Swiss National Bank. And in between take a break and listen to Pink Floyd’s ‘Money’ or Gwen Stefani’s ‘Rich Girl’ on the jukebox, or have a chat about money with one of our hosts waiting for you at the Money bar.

What are the functions of the Swiss National Bank? Why is Switzerland so rich? And does money make you happy? Take one of our audio walks, and stroll through the Moneyverse listening to experts from the fields of science, culture and finance. For around 40 minutes, they will offer insights, fascinating facts and stories, and leave you with plenty of food for thought about money. So put on the headset and get going!
Game
If you want a playful way to explore the topics in the Moneyverse, this game is for you: working in small groups, players collect points in four different Money Worlds. Among other challenges, you will have to safely transport stone money weighing many tons from one island to another, or show a banknote the way to your wallet. In between, personal questions prompt players to think about their own relationship with money. But be careful: unexpected game changers can send the game belly up at any moment – will the risk pay off or will you lose everything? Find out!

Money plays a role throughout our lives: It shapes our daily routines, our decisions and our future. In our programmes for secondary school classes (levels 1 and 2), we explore the relevance of money in our day-to-day affairs. Students discover economic and social connections and gain new angles on matters that directly affect them. Our hosts guide the classes through the learning experience in a dialogic way – so that it is entertaining, accessible, and on equal terms.

Whether visiting with your sports club or work colleagues, our offers for groups of 8 to 28 people are suited to all who wish to immerse themselves in the universe of money. Groups who would like to playfully discover the Money Worlds of the Moneyverse can book our Game and test their skills in team challenges. Groups who prefer to explore the Moneyverse independently will receive a thematic introduction from our hosts before their own tour of discovery.
